Myra L. Jackson
Trust Steward and Rights of Nature
Myra L. Jackson, often described as a Renaissance woman, brings to the world a life’s work that bridges science, policy, Earth stewardship, and spiritual inquiry.
During her teens and early adult life, Myra worked in her family’s multi-faceted real estate business in San Diego, which included escrow, mortgage, insurance, land development, San Diego Cab Company, and Award Printing Co. She served as both an Escrow Officer and Loan Officer, and later earned her California Real Estate license, which she has maintained to the present.
Leaving the family enterprise behind, Myra launched a corporate career as an Electrical Engineer and Project Manager at San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) from 1981 to 1994. At SDG&E she specialized in co-generation systems, conversion of overhead to underground utilities, and redundant systems design for critical facilities such as hospitals. She retired at age 38 to follow a deeper calling toward systems thinking, planetary service, and human development.
Myra then entered the field of Holistic Organizational Development, serving as a Master Trainer, leadership coach, and employee development professional, including work at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, where she brought emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and heart coherence practices to scientists at the forefront of biomedical research.
Her lifelong fascination with the belief structures and cosmologies that inform human lives has been deepened by extensive global travels and immersion in the world’s spiritual traditions.
In the international policy sphere, Myra served from 2012 to 2015 on the UN Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where after being adopted by 192 member states, she helped communicate the 17 SDGs from the global fora to local communities and subnational governments. She initially served as a UN Representative and focal point on Climate Change for the UN Major Groups Commons Cluster, a Senior Advisor on Whole Earth Civics, and is currently the UNFCCC Head of Delegation for Earth Law Center, as well as a member of the UN Harmony with Nature Expert Platform.
Myra is currently focused on the regeneration of Earth’s most critical ecosystems in what she calls the Great Work of our time — a call that summons all who are alive today to recognize that the well-being of the Earth is inextricably linked to the well-being of humanity and all life forms.
As Founder and Global Lead of the Global Freshwaters Summit, an initiative of the Global Being Foundation, Myra focuses on non-anthropocentric approaches to restoring the Earth’s freshwaters and advancing Earth Jurisprudence. She carries the aspirational title of Diplomat of the Biosphere, awarded by the Stockholm Resilience Centre’s Planetary Boundaries initiative, and speaks internationally on the restoration of broken human bonds with Nature, land and water regeneration and ecological succession.
Myra inspires and mentors future leaders as a Visiting Instructor and Mindfulness Innovator in Residence at Creativity & Innovation at Colorado College, co-leading field study programs to UN climate conferences and fosters explorations in whole-Earth consciousness, innate mindfulness and ecological civics in course offerings.
